It’s 3am and I am folding socks because I am on a mission. I have to get up in three hours and have another full day, so as you can tell, it’s business as usual chez Gloria.

I have: bagged the rubbish but not taken the bags out; washed the dishes; cleaned the kitchen sink but not the taps; done 3 loads of laundry; hung up wet washing and folded the dry stuff. This is reasonable progress and I would carry on but I will need those 3 hours of sleep.

While doing laundry, I listened to this enormous CHOON, featuring Dawn Penn. It is a cover of “Never Ever” by British girl band All Saints, originally recorded in 1997. It was not a bad single at the time and won awards but Jamaican reggae queen Dawn (now 67) gives it all kinds of new life and improves on the original. This slightly more up tempo version pairs a sunny tune with Dawn’s cool and understated delivery. “I’m not crazy.” she says, evenly. “I heard that this feeling won’t last that long.”
